Kumulāʻau and Haunani Sing are passionate kanaka maoli cultural educators who combined have over 40 years teaching in the community. Mentored under the guidance of master weaver Raymond K. Nakama, Kumulāʻau has mastered the art of ulana ʻieʻie, and over the years taught Haunani to weave and recreate the many beautiful forms attributed to this style of weaving.
Working a business together as Ke Kumu Hawaiʻi, they continue to teach haumāna of all ages ulana ʻie and other Hawaiian material culture.
Rooted in traditional knowledge and customary practices, Ke Kumu Hawaiʻi aims to promote healthy mauli ola (life force) for humanity with cultural education that fosters and nourishes the emotional, physical, mental, intellectual, social and spiritual well being for the local and global community.
Ke Kumu Hawaiʻi believes that art can heal humanity’s mauli ola through ancestral knowledge and indigenous lifestyles. We are dedicated to providing opportunities that nurture people’s life force and mana (spiritual power) through the proliferation and perpetuation of the traditional cultural arts of Hawaiʻi.
